- The Partner: Hello there!
- So what work do you actually do here?
- The Partner: Ah - well. Let's not skirt around the wreck here, partner. I'm an old man. I'm not young or fit like your good self. No, I'd only get in the way if I was out there trying to manage this place with you. To be honest, I'm not sure if I ever was that capable. Even in the glory days I reckon I was just in the right place at the right time. The old port just seemed to run herself. These days I reckon it's best if I remain a silent partner. I'll keep an eye of Duncan, here, and make sure he doesn't cause any mischief. That's almost a full-time job on its own.
- How did the port end up in disrepair?
- The Partner: You think I frittered my money away, right? Spent all my dosh on good livin' and bad choices? Well, I can't claim to be the most savvy businessman, but believe it or not, it wasn't all my fault. This port always traded with the east, ever since I founded it. We didn't send ships out to the east, the merchants travelled here. And the things they brought here. I made a fortune. Richest man for miles. And then suddenly they just stopped coming. This must have been twenty years back. So I did some investigating, sent out ships of my own. Only a few made it back.
- Player: What happened?
- The Partner: Well, they came back with stories of huge sea monsters; hydras, huge flying turtles, whales the size of islands that ate only men's skulls. The beasts had started targeting ships, as if they were instructed. Turns out it was a seasinger called Quin. Seasingers have the power to control the oceans - and those that in it - through song. But they need to be close. Now, somehow Quin had found a way to control the monsters all at once from afar. She held the east to ransom. She wanted them to worship her like a goddess, of course those Easterners don't believe in gods so they weren't going for it. With no one coming from the east, my port just... fell apart. What could I do?
- Work to do, must be going.
- The Partner: Of course, of course.
